This is my official announcement to readers that I am delving into the world of social networking! That means I now have a Facebook page for my business, as well as a Twitter account. For those who panic at the thought of joining the social networking (SN) world, let's talk about what my SN accounts mean to you--more content and free stuff!!! Did that get your attention? Great, then let's move on.
First, many of you know what Facebook is, but for those who don't, I'll try to explain. It's a site where you can find friends near and far, be it your next-door neighbor or your best friend from high school. You post updates about your life to the site, and they receive notice of those updates because they are your friends. My Facebook business site differs only in that all you stampers are asked to become a "Fan" of the site, rather than a Friend; it's just a way Facebook offers to separate business sites from personal ones. As a Fan, you will be notified of updates I make to Facebook. My blog posts also stream into my site, so you have a better chance of not missing anything if you become a Fan. The Facebook posts are largely informational, and I'll be adding some exclusive content that you won't see on the blog. To become a Fan of my Facebook page, click here, or on the Facebook icon on the left of this page.
While many of you are familiar with Facebook, I know Twitter is a whole new ballgame. I think if you give it a try, you'll like it. Twitter users answer the simple question: "What are you doing now?" in 140 characters or fewer. Just to put that in context, it works out to about 30 words or fewer, depending on how much you abbreviate. Twitter allows me to give you small bits of information and I can do it quickly, so it's easy for me to dash off a line when I have a spare moment. I can give you a quick alert about Stamp Camp, for instance, or remind you that you have only a few days left to take advantage of that month's special. The messages are called "tweets," and right now, I'm tweeting 3-5 times a week.
When you decide to follow someone on Twitter, their tweets come to your cell phone as a text message. Many people like this option, because they are on the go and don't always have time to sit down and check email. If you don't have a large texting plan for your cell phone, you can choose instead to setup a desktop icon on your computer, and the tweets will feed into that. To start following me on Twitter, click here.
OK, you've read to the bottom of this email, so now you understand that you can benefit from participating in my social network pages. You will have more information at your disposal, and be less likely to overlook an important stamping-related deadline.
And if that's not enough, there's FREE STUFF involved! I'm trying to build these social networking options, and to involve as many people as possible, I plan to offer a monthly contest on each site, at least for the next few months. The first contest is for Facebook. Everyone who becomes a FAN of my Facebook site by midnight (EST) this Thursday, June 4, will be entered into a drawing for a free prize. So become a fan and possibly win a prize!
