Re-Work Wednesday: Page 11--and Some Other New Stuff!

A while back, I did a weekly series called Re-Work Wednesday. I stopped it for a bit, and now I'm coming back to it because I think it's a great way to teach you how to find inspiration for your cards and projects. The idea is that I pick a project from the Stampin' Up! catalog, then re-work it into a project of my own, using a different color scheme and whatever stamps and I tools I happen to have (because, believe it or not, I don't own everything in the catalog, either!). I want you to know you can see a card in the catalog and interpret it using your own supplies.

So, I'm kicking things off with a re-work of the gift bag found on page 11 of the Idea Book & Catalog. The original uses hearts and a brighter color scheme:

I was in a Fall frame of mind, so I went with the richer colors found in the Pocketful of Posies Designer Series Paper. I used one of the Boho Blossoms flower punches and mounted each one onto a 3/4" square of Crumb Cake paper. The Medallion stamp provides a nice background on the Rich Razzleberry card.

Now, about that other "new stuff" I mentioned in the title. This post marks my 350th post on this blog, since I started back in 2008. What a lot of stamping! Anyway, I've been doing this a while and I was ready for a change, so I have redesigned my blog banner and some of the sidebar buttons to reflect the different things I am doing these days. I'm providing online video stamping classes (click here to see a video on my new class), and I have some other projects in the works as well, including a weekly technique series you can subscribe to. Rework Wednesday: Page 105

My ever-popular Rework Wednesday feature is back with a remake of the box shown on page 105 of the Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalog. I used the Razzle Dazzle set and the new Greenhouse Gala Designer Series Paper. The original is shown below:

Remember, when you look for projects to remake, you don't have to be literal--a box can be a card, a card can be a box, a scrapbook page can be a gift bag, etc. 

Re-Work Wednesday: The Cover

First of all, yes, I do know how to read a calendar and I do know that today is Thursday, not Wednesday. But, I had this project all ready to post and then got REALLY busy yesterday and never got to it. So, here it is!

While perusing through the catalog in search of the next Re-Work Wednesday project, I had a thought: I always LOVE the projects on the catalog's cover, but I had never reworked any of those before. So, I chose what is actually part of a folding scrapbook, pictured at the top of the catalog, and used that as the basis for my card. The original is shown here:

I wanted to interpret the design by using the Abundant Hope set, in the Occasions Mini Catalog. I made mine into an Easter card, but it could be used for any occasion.

Re-Work Wednesday: Page 112

In case you haven't noticed, I've been really into using my Big Shot lately--it just makes life so easy! So, this week's Re-Work Wednesday project also uses that great cutting tool.

The original project comes from page 112 of the Idea Book & Catalog:

Rather than stamp the flower from the Good Friend set, I used the phrase only and instead cut my flower using the Flower Layers w/Leaf die.

For the bottom paper, I used a piece from the Welcome Neighbor DSP pack in the Sale-a-Bration catalog, which is in effect only until March 31, so email me for more details on how to take advantage of SAB!

Re-work Wednesday: Page 94

Re-Work Wednesday: Page 138

This week's Re-Work Wednesday is an easy but cute project that gets its detail from a Top Note die cut that has been embossed with a Texturz Plate. And yes, I know there's no stamping on it (it's all made with the Big Shot), but you can stamp a message on the inside!

I made this card last week, for my hubby's birthday. I think the colors are great for a man or a woman. I love cards that are "uni-sexy," as one stamper I know calls them! The thing I wanted to point out is this: When I needed a card, I took the same advice I give all of you--I opened up the catalog and found something I could make my own. The original card I used for inspiration is shown below:

Christmas Tree Week-Part 3 (And Re-Work Wednesday!)

Because it's Christmas Tree Week here on What2Stamp, I couldn't resist incorporating that into my regular Re-Work Wednesday feature. Remember, on Re-Work Wednesday, I take a card or other project in the catalog, and re-work it using stamps and accessories I happen to have--just to show you what you can do with your own supplies.

Today's inspiration comes from page 38 of the Idea Book & Catalog. The original is shown below:

I used Lovely As a Tree, an old favorite. After stamping in Basic Brown, I dabbed on some Stampin' Pastels. And, rather than use the die cut shown, I used my Ticket Corner Punch to dress up the edges of my Ruby Red accent. The thick ribbon and knot in the bow makes it a thick card to mail--but it's perfect for those cards you hand out at the office!

Re-Work Wednesday: Page 36

Re-Work Wednesday: Page 62

This week's Re-Work Wednesday project is inspired by page 62 of the Idea Book & Catalog. Instead of the Cheers to You set--which I also love!--I used the Simply Said set. The original design is shown below:

 

Re-Work Wednesday: Page 64

Today's Re-Work Wednesday project is a super simple bookmark. I liked the one in the original image, shown below, but each heart had to be hand cut for that version. You know me--I'm all about simplifying! My version uses the Full Heart Punch, instead of cutting.

For my ribbon, I stamped a phrase from the Best Wishes & More set, onto a piece of Twill Tape, using a Real Red Craft Spot.
